Hancock Co., Miss. May 23, 2024 – The Events Committee of Bay Saint Louis, Miss., together with Partners for Stennis & Michoud and the Hancock County Port & Harbor Commission are proud to announce Port Air Space Day in the Bay. The event is set for Saturday, Nov. 9th from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. on the grounds of the historic Hancock County Courthouse on Main Street in Bay St. Louis.

“This event will celebrate and recognize all the companies bringing STEM-related careers to Hancock County and all they do to create jobs and opportunities for Hancock County and the State of Mississippi,” said Events Chair  Janice Guido of Bay Life Gifts at Century Hall. “We want to help give children the information they need to consider careers in science, technology, engineering, and math to grow the workforce right here at home,” she said.

Features of this exciting event include the 2nd Annual Bud & Burgers Cooking Competition, hosted by the Hancock Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by Mitchell Distributing. There will also be interactive STEM exhibits from the tenants at Port Bienville, Stennis International Airport and NASA’s Stennis Space Center on display for adults and children. The inaugural event last year drew a crowd of 3,000 people and featured fascinating exhibits such as underwater drones, flight simulators, robotic games and even a portable planetarium! During Port Air Space Day in the Bay children of all ages will be able to meet face-to-face with people who work in STEM careers in Hancock County.

Some of the other agencies and organizations supporting the event include: INFINITY Science Center, the Hancock Library System, the Hancock County Historical Society, Pearl River Community College, Northshore Community College, University of Southern Mississippi Coastal Operations, local military recruiters, and members of the VFW and American Legion. The Hancock County Historical Society will feature historic films, photographic collections, and speakers, such as local author Pat Murphy, to talk about the history of NASA’s Stennis Space Center. Anyone with a product or service related to veteran programs and services, space, science, technology, engineering, or ocean exploration is invited to participate by reserving a booth. Local restaurants are also encouraged to feature special space or science-related drinks and menu items, and merchants are invited to decorate their stores and offer special space or science-related products and promotions to welcome visitors during this exciting event. Registration for exhibitors and sponsors is open at www.partnersforstennis.org. Questions may be directed to the Hancock Chamber of Commerce at 228.467.9048.
